It might not come as a surprise, but Paris Hilton doesn’t travel light. “Tanning machine, toaster, disco-ball,” are just three items on her road-trip inventory - and that’s excluding her nine suitcases. “I went to Curry’s,” she explains, “and went crazy, and bought, like, everything.”

But this is a road trip like no other. It’s the Cash & Rocket Tour, a 4-day charity drive, from London to Monaco taking in Paris and Geneva en route. It’s a turbo-charged, super road-trip, really. Now in its seventh year, the cars are among the world’s most expensive, and the drivers, some of the most well-connected women - Paris Hilton, Topshop heiress Chloe Green and supermodel Jodie Kidd, being three.

Londoners passing through Wellington Arch on Thursday last week might have noticed the display of postbox-red shiny toy supercars flanked by 24-hour security guards: it was hard to miss. Four days later, the rally of 40 cars was greeted in Monaco with a plume of champagne showers, no less. And while the parties have now subsided, fund-raising efforts are ongoing. By June 30, the rally hopes to have raised £500,000 in donations for the Helen Bamber Foundation, Dream For Future Africa Foundation and Sumbandila.
