The BBC cuts are really biting at Radio 4. The station’s outgoing controller Gwyneth Williams was interviewed on Feedback (Radio 4, Sunday), the network’s listener response forum, and admitted that programmes are being made more cheaply and that the schedule is now much more padded out with repeats.
You can tell. As a radio critic I always like to highlight fresh and topical programmes where possible. But over the past year, in particular, this has been getting harder as many of the programmes are repeated in prime slots. They’re very good programmes, mind, but I’ll go mad (as will you) if I just tell you to listen to them over and over again.
