'My neighbour says I am responsible for our boundary fence. Is he right?'

Q I have lived in my present property for 24 years. The boundary on the left-hand side of the property is marked by a few feet of brick wall joining a wooden 6ft panel abutting a thick leylandii hedge about 6ft high.

Last spring, my neighbours said that a panelled wooden fence on their side of the hedge was falling over because the posts were rotten, and asked me what I proposed to do about it. Until then, I didn’t know that the panelled fence existed....
